![]() A $99 adapter gave me access to every lens I own, complete with all of the stabilization and autofocus functions, and… BIG bonus here… when I mount one of my EF-S lenses on the R – the camera automatically handles the crop factor. I can’t tell you how happy I am with the fit and finish of this camera, and the extreme quality of the images. And, even though it has every competitive modern feature that most shooters could want, it still won’t suffer the bugs and failures that are inevitable with completely new designs. By basing it on a rock solid and well regarded current platform they’ve ensured that their new offering will offer high quality AND be completely stable. It’s quality and low-light performance is exceptional, and it’s also incredibly stable, which was a very deliberate (and frankly brilliant) move by Canon. It’s built on the same platform as the 5DmIV, which remains a very well regarded platform for both still and video photography. The value proposition with this camera is just enourmous. There was only one camera that checked EVERY box, and that was the EOS-R. Common Canon interface (I didn’t want to relearn an entire ecosystem), a STABLE platform, and access to ALL of the lenses I already own. Competitive pixel count and specifications. I had a long and specific list of features that I needed satisfied in order to justify the purchase of a new camera: I needed a full frame, mirrorless platform. It’s the perfect solution to all of our needs. I’ve been shooting with the EOS-R for a few of weeks now, and every day I’m blown away by its incredible quality and every day there are new capabilities I’m learning about. Now I can tell you I absolutely made the right decision when I purchased this camera. We’ve been continually impressed with the quality of our Canon cameras, so we eagerly read a lot of the negative comments and watched all of the ‘disappointed’ reviews of the EOS R on YouTube, but as we looked over the specs for this camera, it’s competitive and contemporary feature set and price, I just couldn’t imagine we’d be disappointed by the purchase. We wanted to make sure our investment was ‘future proof’. We were also hesitant to invest a large sum of money into an expensive camera like the 5DmIV and others because the future seems to be moving toward mirrorless. ![]() ![]() As our skill levels and photography requirements have advanced, we’ve both been discussing the move to a full frame platform, but we were really struggling with the idea of how much of our expensive lens inventory we’d have to leave behind. Between us, we’ve invested a significant amount of money in both EF and EFS lenses, and other Ca. My wife and I started with Rebel T3i’s some years ago, then moved to 80D’s for the past year or two. I’ve also been in the Canon ecosystem for quite a few years now. Spending money on a new camera is something that I don’t do lightly. I have deep pockets, but extraordinarily short arms. First, you should know that I suffer from a genetic abnormality common to many men of Scottish ancestry.
